Superovulation
Superovulation is a treatment protocol designed to increase the
number of eggs that a woman ovulates in a cycle. In an unstimulated
cycle, a woman typically ovulates a single egg. In a stimulated
superovulation cycle, several eggs are ovulated at once, thereby
increasing the likelihood of conception. Superovulation may be
performed using orally ingested medications or injectable
medications, and is normally combined with intrauterine insemination
(IUI). Patients who may benefit from superovulation/IUI are couples
with unexplained infertility, endometriosis, and ovarian
dysfunction.
