- One 3 cc (ml) syringe with attached needle (gray cap)
- One 1 cc (100 unit) syringe with attached 29 gauge ½-inch needle
- One bottle of Omnitrope (5.8 mg) powder
- One 2 cc sterile water bottle (Sodium Chloride)
- Alcohol swabs
- Snap off the caps from both the water and powder (medication) bottles
- Make sure the needle on the syringe is secured on tightly
- Turn water vial upside down and draw up 1 cc of sterile water into the 3 cc syringe with the attached needle
- Inject the drawn up water into Omnitrope powder bottle and allow to dissolve (you may shake bottle gently until powder dissolves completely)
- Using the 1 cc (100 unit) syringe with attached 29 gauge ½-inch needle, draw up 0.5 cc (50 units) of dissolved medication (you may need to turn bottle up-side-down in order to reach dissolved liquid)
- To remove any air bubbles, point the needle up and gently tap on the syringe until all the bubbles rise to the top, then push the plunger carefully until a small drop of liquid begins to appear from the tip of the needle
- Wipe skin with alcohol swab at intended injection site
- Using the same syringe and attached needle, administer medication subcutaneously:
- The injection can be given in the back of the arm if someone else is administering it, or in the mid-abdominal area or the top of the thigh if you are self-injecting
- Pinch the skin with one hand and hold the syringe like a pencil with the other hand
- Push the needle into the subcutaneous tissue at a 45-degree angle until it disappears into the skin and then inject the medication
- Refrigerate remaining 50 units (0.5 cc) of dissolved medication for your next injection
Possible skin reaction: A red area may appear around the injection site and/or the injection site might itch and/or bruising may occur. These are all excepted reactions and will disappear over time. Please notify us if redness/bruising around the injection site appear to be enlarging or spreading.
