Injection Instructions
GONAL-f MULTI-DOSE VIAL (450 IU, or 1050 IU) INJECTION INSTRUCTIONS
- Necessary Materials:
- Gonal-f multi-dose vial (powder medication)
- Gonal-f multi-dose pre-filled 1 cc (ml) sterile water syringe with attached needle (for mixing)
- Gonal-f multi-dose 1 cc syringe with attached needle (marked with “IU FSH” for injection)
- Alcohol swabs
- Inject the entire pre-filled 1 cc sterile water syringe into the Gonal-f powder vial and allow to dissolve (you may swirl bottle gently until powder dissolves completely)
- Turn Gonal-f powder vial with dissolved medication upside down, and using the Gonal-f 1 cc syringe with attached needle (marked with “IU FSH” for injection), draw up your desired daily Gonal-f dose
- To remove any air bubbles, point the needle up and gently tap on the syringe until all the bubbles rise to the top, then push the plunger carefully until a small drop of liquid begins to appear from the tip of the needle
- Wipe skin with alcohol swab at intended injection site
- Remove cap and cover off of injection needle and administer medication subcutaneously:
- The injection can be given in the back of the arm if someone else is administering it, or in the mid-abdominal area or the top of the thigh if you are self-injecting
- Pinch the skin with one hand and hold the syringe like a pencil with the other hand
- Push the needle into the subcutaneous tissue at a 45-degree angle until it disappears into the skin and then inject the medication
- Refrigerate what is left of the medication (dissolved powder vial) for your next dose
- For your next dose (likely the next day), repeat steps 3-8 (using new injection needle)
Possible skin reaction: A red area may appear around the injection site and/or the injection site might itch and/or bruising may occur. These are all excepted reactions and will disappear over time. Please notify us if redness/bruising around the injection site appear to be enlarging or spreading.
