  3. Remove the cover from the 1 cc prefilled sterile water syringe
  4. Tightly twist the 20 gauge mixing needle onto prefilled sterile water syringe, and remove the needle cover
  5. Inject 1 cc sterile water in the prefilled syringe into the Cetrotide vial (powder), and gently swirl until powder dissolves completely (while keeping needle in the vial)
  6. Invert the vial with dissolved powder, and slowly pull back the plunger until the 1 cc syringe fills up with the mixed medication completely
  7. Recap the mixing needle and detach carefully
  8. Tightly twist the 27 gauge injecting needle onto the 1 cc syringe containing the mixed medication (dissolved) and remove the cover
  9. To remove any air bubbles, point the needle up and gently tap on the syringe until all the bubbles rise to the top, then push the plunger carefully until a small drop of liquid begins to appear from the tip of the needle
  10. Wipe skin with alcohol swab at intended injection site
  11. Using the same syringe and attached needle, administer medication subcutaneously:
    • The injection can be given in the back of the arm if someone else is administering it, or in the mid-abdominal area or the top of the thigh if you are self-injecting
    • Pinch the skin with one hand and hold the syringe like a pencil with the other hand
    • Push the needle into the subcutaneous tissue at a 45-degree angle until it disappears into the skin and then inject the medication

Possible skin reaction: A red area may appear around the injection site and/or the injection site might itch and/or bruising may occur. These are all excepted reactions and will disappear over time. Please notify us if redness/bruising around the injection site appear to be enlarging or spreading.
